We relaxed in the grandstand and watched a couple harness races during our day at the fair. I'd never seen a harness race before. It was really neat!

What's the truck for? Looks like it's in the way.
The truck has the starting gates on it. Instead of a static starting gate like in the Kentucky Derby, the harness racers use a moving truck with the gates reaching out on either side. The announcer calls the hourses to the gates and when they all get up to the gates in a line, the truck speeds off and the race starts. When the truck is far enough ahead, it pulls off to the side of the track.
Thanks for explaining that - I wondered about the truck too!
