Unlike the Zanesville lock which sits in a nice little park area, there's no public access to the Philo lock. I had to shoot these pictures from the bridge. This is the view upriver as boats would enter the lock. . .
There were two boats locking through when we were there.
Look at the water level of the lock compared to the river. The water was a swirling torrent outside the lock as water was being released to lower the level of the lock to the level of the river.
A final view of the downriver gates -- mother nature again chooses the most unlikely spots. . .

I love the second picture, with the foggy wooded hills in the background (is that fog?).
No, not fog. I think it’s a combination of mist off the river and shooting a little into the sun. I did think it looked like fog, too.
