DAY 98 - Greenwood Cemetery

Greenwood Cemetery was formed in 1835 and has 47,000 graves spaces. It was the first public cemetery in Zanesville and was called the City Cemetery until changed to its present name in 1885.

The stone arch at the entrance was erected in 1887 when the name was changed from City Cemetery. At that time the cemetery was out in the country. It was reached by pedestrians on a board walk up the hill along the National Road.

New Soldier's Field in Greenwood Cemetery contains space for 430 graves. The first veteran buried in Soldier's Plot was William Dennison, who fought in the Revolutionary War.

DAY 97 - Yesterday's Visitor

As I walked out of the garage yesterday, something over in the corner of the door caught my eye. I haven't seen one of these in years -- and especially one so big. He/she must have been about 5" long.

The mantis was most cooperative while I took pictures, some with the camera almost on top of him.

DAY 96 - Fall on the River

Last weekend was peak color in the area. Some rain and wind have really started to bare some of the gorgeous trees. I'm so glad we took a long ride to "shoot some color" when we did.

The reflections on the river were simply gorgeous!

This is one of the nicest and largest houses along with river south of town. What a view!

And the trees, lots of huge, old sycamores with their branches reaching over the water.

DAY 95 - First Presbyterian Church

I love these old churches. This one is in the little town of Dresden (Longaberger Basket's home).

DAY 94 - Weinie Roast

Our neighbors up on the hill across the road look to be having a Halloween weiner roast today.

They've been setting up for it all week -- tents, hay bales, two huge piles of firewood, tables and chairs, and I think they've set up a haunted trail through their woods. I wasn't invited. . .
